Service and Outreach

  • The nomination committee chooses the Wallenberg medal winner. Housed within the Donia Human Rights Center (DHRC), the Wallenberg Medal and Lecture recognizes outstanding humanitarians. The award-winner delivers a keynote lecture.

  • For four years (2018-2021) I was a co-organizer for the annual COMPASS@Michigan program. This is a DEI outreach program that brings 12-16 students to UM for a weekend of seminars and advice on applying for PhD programs.

  • I served as the MAP (minorities and philosophy) representative for two years (2018-2021) alongside Mercy Corredor and Rebecca Harrison. We offered peer support, and organized workshops and events for our fellow students, including invited-speaker talks from Tommy Shelby, Desiree Valentine, Andrea Pitts, and Robin Zheng.

  • I served as GEO steward in 2018 alongside Eduardo Martinez and Rebecca Harrison, and again in the Fall of 2021 with Valerie Trudel, and Elizabeth Beckman. We served as the liaisons to the philosophy department, managed grievances, and organized actions including the direct action for trans health care featured here. (That’s me in the first photo)

  • Alongside Angela Sun I was co-organizer of the Aesthetics Discussion Group in 2017 and 2018. In the summers of 2019 I co-organized the Republican Political Philosophy reading group with Alvaro Sottil. And in 2021 I led our department’s Sci-Fi and Philosophy Summer reading group.

  • Spring 2023 I co-organized the annual social philosophy workshop alongside Yixuan Wu and Jason Byas. Sahar Heydari-Fard gave the keynote speech, “Diversity, Polarization and Dynamic Structures.”
